Or maybe it's because blog adminstrators can assign any date and time that they like to their main-page posts, including, as you see, dates that have not yet come to pass.
Orrin's doing that so that he won't have to fiddle with the blog to keep that post at the top of the page over the weekend; the future date will automatically ensure that it's first.
