Songs to get you up the hill

Per Julia Buckley's comment on my post about Heroes, I'd like to compile a list of the top ten motivational songs, songs that quicken the step or energise the will. Songs for overcoming adversity. In addition to Heroes, I'd like to nominate:

"Gonna Fly Now" from the movie "Rocky"

"Nothing Gonna Stop Us Now: by Jefferson Starship

AC/DC - You shook me all night long. Pick that one out!

Or for ego-strokin', Spinal Tap-style poodle-permed pomp rock, you can't beat a bit of Whitesnake.

David Freakin' Coverdale.

Damon Albarn is kinda a twit, but Blur - Song 2. If that song comes on the radio and you're driving, it's impossible not to go faster. It's like a law of nature.

Van Halen - Panama.

Tom Petty - Running Down a Dream.

Also, if you're going to go down the Spinal Tap route, I'd argue for Maiden ahead of Whitesnake.

Mike:

I suspect he'd appreciate the moniker David Freakin' Coverdale.

In fact, if he somehow gets to read this, he'll probably change it to David Freakin' Coverdale by deed poll.

Interesting choices. Does anyone have a link to a David Freakin Coverdale song?

If its fast paced poodle rock youre after, noone beats Bon Jovi.

After I created the post, I realized that there are two criteria that would satisfy the request: songs with a fast, driving rythmn and songs with inspirational lyrics that speak about overcoming the odds. Ideally both criteria should be satisfied by finalists on the list.

And for something, as they say, completely different, here's one of my favorites from the 1970s. An instrumental piece from Barry White and his Love Unlimited Orchestra called "Love's Theme". It's a very breezy combination of funk-disco and 101 strings. Makes you want to fly.

Brit: Yeah, I think so, but Tawny Freakin' Kitaen is equally apt.

Duck: Coverdale is Whitesnake's singer. Also, I agree - most rock that gets your heart pounding, and I'm looking at you Guns'N'Roses, is an expression of adolescent, inchoate anger - the opposite of inspirational. Personally I'd take Motley Crue over Bon Jovi, but different strokes.

If you're going to use anime based AMVs, you might as well go all the way — be a pioneer. I think it hits both of your criteria.
