That's what they say. That's why it is a game. It's like a poker game, you have to know who's bluffing and who isn't. If Tony Blair can convince the Iranians that crazy George Bush just might attack him, then maybe they fold their cards. Or maybe we push the just shy of crazy folks in their power structure to overthrow the thoroughly crazy folks in their power structure.
Bush doesn't need to win re-election, and noone in his party is particularly fond of him anymore, so he's got the perfect excuse to act like he's a little crazy for the next two years. It might just do some good.
But what does "good cop, bad cop" get us ?
ReplyDeleteIran has already strongly indicated that they are unwilling to change their minds, regardless of the diplomatic fallout.
They are willing to endure sanctions.
