Hmmm. The governor and the legislature are all het up about Hawaii's dangerous dependence on foreign oil.

We don't have any. Nary a drop.

Yet we're as well off as Nigeria, except of course that Nigeria's population is 100 times bigger.

I followed a few links and never arrived at the originator of the map. Do we know where it came from?

Apparently it was first posted to the 'net on the Norwegian site According to Carl Talk - Stormers Blog:

"Carl Størmer blogg -- tanker, bilder og lister om teknologi, flybransjen, jazz, forretningsmodeller, strategi, e-handel, piggtråd, gulerøtter og paradiddler -- fra Oslo og Boston. Hverken logisk, kronologisk eller konsistent. Kommentarer mottaes med takk."

Carl Størmer writes that a friend passed it to him, and that it originated with The York Group:

"The York Group helps information and communications technology (ICT) companies establish and grow sales in international markets. We provide much more than advice. With offices in 24 countries, we have the local resources to..." Yadda yadda.

Are you sure that map doesn't represent gun-related homicides?

Or ice-cream consumption?

Or 'total quantity of hubris'?

We get Texas, so I'm cool with it. I've been humming "I'm from Big 'D' " all weekend.
