I learned, when editing stories from non-English-speaking venues, to silently sound out all place and personal names.I learned this after writing a headline about an alleged disaster at an oil refinery in the Indonesian city of Kohk Sukon.Some things they don't teach in school.The Agence France-Presse office in Bangkok was formerly notorious for these sorts of hoaxes.
